Blue Light

On average, we spend more than 50 hours per week looking at smartphones, tablets, computer screens, watching TV or playing video games and that average is increasing every year.

All of these modern devices have 'LED backlit' screens that produce blue light, also known as HEV (High Visibility Energy). The issue with this is that blue light, which sits next to UV light on the light spectrum can cause short and long term issues for your eyes if they aren't correctly protected. In the same way as you use sun block to defend yourself from the negative impact of UV light, it is important to protect your eyes from the harmful effects of Blue light.

How does blue light effect me?

  • In the short term, excess exposure to blue light can cause digital eye strain (DES or CVS, computer vision syndrome), headaches and itchy eyes.
  • In the long term, it can cause irreversible eye damage (cataracts and AMD: Age-related macular degeneration).
  • Charles Czeisler, PhD, MD, from Harvard Medical School says blue light can have a "deleterious effect on many aspects of human health" and "it is a growing public health concern."

Anti-blue light glasses like INCA's range, provide short and long term defence against the impact that blue light can have on your health and life, protecting your eyes, whilst also adding to your style with designer frames.
